Add an Anti-Idling Controller to Save Fuel!

Fleet drivers often leave their engines running when Parked. There are legitimate reasons to keep the vehicle's accessories operating: flashing lights, radios, computers, maintaining the cabin temperature. Unfortunately, idling the engine is a very inefficient, expensive, and environmentally unfriendly way to keep those accessories working. Though some fleets have policies to minimize idling, these policies are not always followed.

What's at stake? Idling consumes a ¼ gal/hr [cars] to nearly 1 gal/hr [trucks]. Each gallon costs money and causes 19.3 lbs of GHG emissions.
In addition, too much idling can dirty up the engine which can cause performance losses [lower mpg] and increase maintenance.
If your fleet vehicles average over one hour per day idling in Park, then a solution is warranted.

ConVerdant Vehicles offers a solution. IdleRight is a controller that installs into nearly any vehicle [automatic transmissions] and can minimize the engine idling time when the vehicle is parked. Operation is simple enough. Whenever the vehicles is parked and turned off, with accessories on, the IdleRight will keep the accessories on [no restarting of accessories] and cycle the engine off and on only as needed to maintain a sufficient battery charge level. It's automatic. The driver can override the system at any time just by turning on the engine with the key.

The result is that engine-off time saves fuel [and emissions, gumming, maintenance, etc]. IdlerRight saves over half the old idling time, maybe up to 90% [2/3 to 3/4 is often a good guess]. Performance and maintenance savings can also equal the idling savings. Though ConVerdant can help you calculate more accurate predictions for your case, a practical guide is that vehicles that idle for 1 hour per day can pay back in about 4 years, while vehicles that idle 4 hours per day can pay back in about 1 year.

Idleright installations can cost anywhere from $650 to over $1500 per vehicle, fully installed, depending on accessories needed. Accessories might include an anti-theft override, high output alternator, larger or 2nd battery, cabin heater, and-or cabin fan. ConVerdant can explain when and why various accessories might be needed, and can quote configurations and estimate savings for each vehicle.
